Abstract:
Recent publications estimate the correction of national CO2 emissionsfor oil derived synthetic organic chemicals in the Netherlands (excluding bitumens) in 1990 at 10.8 Mt CO2. This figure is significantly lower than other sources have stated in the past. In this publication, the correction is estimated in a bottom-up approach, based on official trade statistics and production capacity figures. The correction factor for carbon storage in long life oil-derived materials (excluding bitumens) and for export of other oil-derived chemicals is calculated. Addition of both terms gives an estimate for the correction factor for oil derived chemicals. The 1990 correction factor is estimated at 14.3 Mt CO2.
