Abstract:
Comparison of technical information from datasheets is a usual way ofselecting inverters. The inverter must have acceptable technical performance
and should meet government and utility company requirements with respect to
safety, interference, etc. Unfortunately the specification forms, data
sheets, brochures and terminology are not standardised. This makes a good
comparison very difficult. To facilitate the selection a standard
specification format for inverters for grid connected PV systems has been
developed. This format has been used throughout the reported inventory of
inverters up to 10 kW. This report describes a standard specification format
and associated forms for grid connected inverters. The commonly used
terminology is explained and in addition information is given about the
operation principles of important parts of the inverters. To cover the
majority of important inverter information, four pages are required. The data
are divided into functional blocks, e.g. manufacturers data, general inverter
data, nominal ratings, maximum ratings, inverter efficiency, power
consumption, environmental interference, safety and protection measures,
technical annex and other features. The inventory concerns inverters for grid
connected PV systems up to 10 kW and has been updated until june 1994. Data
sheets of 59 inverters, originating from 20 manufacturers, have been
transformed into the standard reporting format. All forms were sent to the
manufacturers or dealers for a final check of reported specifications. 2
