Abstract:
In this report the results of a ECN Well to Wheels study will be giventhat has been carried out for city busses and light duty distribution
trucks with an internal combustion engine, fuel cells propulsion (with
and without on-board reforming). Results will be given from the energy
use and both greenhouse gas and air polluting emissions.
The results have been generated with the use of two separate models,
for the vehicle independent part (Well-to-Tank) and the vehicle dependent
part
(Tank-to-Wheels) respectively. The calculations were carried out for
a new light weight citybus and distribution truck in The Netherlands
in 2020. The considered fuels are sulphur free diesel and hydrogen.
The fuels are produced from crude (diesel), natural gas of water with
electricity (hydrogen).
The influence of the primary energy carrier, the required process steps
and the vehicle behaviour are considered in the study.
