Abstract:
This work presents an approach to evaluate the wind climate in a location close to another wind farm. It is shown that the effect of the upstream wind farm can be expressed in various impact parameters, and that these can be determined by using a dedicated planetary boundary layer solver. Apart from the force on the flow due to the wind farm, this solver takes into account the convective as well as the Coriolis forces. The impact parameters include the velocity recovery distance, which is shown to be of the order of a hundred kilometer for the cur-rent size of wind farms, and the minimum safe distance, which is shown to be of the order of ten kilometer
