Abstract:
The numerical solution is described of two considered elementary classes(heating from the side and heating from below) of natural convection
flows
using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code CFX4.1. The numerical
solutions are restricted to 2-dimensional flows. The numerical results
have
been compared with existing experimental and numerical data as reported
in
the literature. The present work has been performed in order to satisfy
the
central objectives of the validation of the CFX CFD numerical models
for
natural convection. The numerical results for natural convection flows
as
obtained with the low Reynolds number #kappa# - #epsilon# model of
Launder
and Sharma as implemented in CFX is in good agreement with experimental
data
(differences <20%). The application of the CFX standard #kappa# - #epsilon#
model results in a significant overprediction (about 40%) of the wall
heat
transfer for these flows. 20 refs.
