Abstract:
In October 2001 monitoring of the run-off from emergency lanes of highwayson seven locations in the Netherlands was started. During 4 months the
loads of heavy metals (Cr, Cd, Ni, Cu, Pb, Zn) and mineral oil were
determined at 2 locations on the A12 near Zevenaar, 1 location on the
A6 near Keteldiep and 4 locations on the A7 near Groningen. The aim
of the investigation was to determine the influence of the type of emergency
lanes: ZOAB 0/16, ZOAB 11/16 and DAB 0/16 on the run-off quality. The
conclusion was that the concentration in the run-off of heavy metals
and mineral oil is significantly higher for DAB 0/16 than for ZOAB.
Generally, the mass-loads for ZOAB are comparable to those found in
earlier investigations near Zeist and Spaarnwoude. The loads for DAB
are up to about a factor of 10 higher. It appears that the loads of
heavy metals and mineral oil are directly related to the amount of sludge
in the
run-off. No significant influence of different types of ZOAB on the
run-off quality was found.
