Abstract: This report describes the technical specifics of the ECN monitor 'Marga-C'. The monitor measures Black Carbon (soot) in air which is held responsible for adverse health effects. The scientific motivation for its development is given. This is followed by a description of the various technical systems including sampling and optical properties. The use of the instrument has been extended by a combination with an OC measuring device. Results of various experimental campaigns demonstrate the applicability. Finally, an outlook for the years 2009-2010 is given.
