Abstract:
The overall message of this report is that, from a techno-economic perspective of meeting ambitious mitigation targets in the year 2050, there are sound arguments to move beyond the 20% target in 2020. However, to realize the deployment of low-carbon technologies for meeting these long-term targets in a consistent and cost-effective way, the targets have to be translated into a coherent mix of low-carbon technology policies, including a reliable and adequate level of carbon pricing combined with a variety of additional policy measures, depending on the sector concerned and tailored to the development stage of individual low-carbon technologies.
