Abstract:
Smart metering is being introduced in many countries across Europe. As well as facilitating the business processes of utilities, smart metering can also provide final customers with detailed information on their domestic energy consumption. This information can include data on how much gas, heat and electricity they are consuming, how much it is costing them and what impact their consumption is having on greenhouse gas emissions. There is strong evidence that this information can be used by customers to reduce their energy consumption. However, this is a new topic and there is little experience of using smart metering to support energy saving. This Guide has been produced to collect best practice as it is currently understood and advise those charged with implementing smart metering.
