Abstract:
This paper describes the modelling effort and analysis undertaken atECN Policy Studies in the EMF-19 framework by using the Western European
MARKAL model. The model structure and the advanced economic feed back
formulation used is briefly described. Scenarios introducing carbon
emissions reduction targets (by concentration level or by carbon taxes)
lead to changes in energy mix, in technology deployment and in electricity
production compared to a reference case. The impact and importance of
carbon capture and storage as it appears as part of the solution to
achieve the emission targets is analysed.
