Abstract:
In this paper, we explore the role of the electricity sector in a future carbon-low energy system. The electricity sector has a number of options to reduce its emissions, including renewables such as wind, solar, hydro and biomass, fossil fuels with CCS and nuclear energy, each of which options is characterized by, among others, its potential and future costs. The impact of choices within the electricity sector on the choices required in other parts of the energy system is profound in different ways.
