Abstract:
Due to the high level of uncertainty surrounding the adjustments needed in the energy market to realize future emission reduction targets, and the need to match this to the energy infrastructure in a timely manner, Gasunie Transport Services and TenneT requested ECN to provide an outlook on energy supply developments. In cooperation with TenneT and GTS, ECN has drafted scenarios to map the Dutch energy system, covering the focus areas of the central infrastructure for gas and electricity to 2035.
The starting point was a collection of the most recent scenarios of the National Energy Outlook (NEV). ECN has calculated the demand and supply side for the alternative scenarios in detail, according to a method that corresponds to the NEV. The results provide input for volume- and capacity calculations that are carried out by GTS and TenneT outside this study. This provides a foundation for substantiating investment plans considered to be necessary for the future central gas and electricity infrastructure. These plans and data also provide input for the biannual update of the European scenarios made for both natural gas and electricity in the ENTSO framework (TYNDP2018).
