Abstract:
Integral chain management has become an important topic of environmental
policy concern since the publication of the first National Environmental
Policy Plan in 1989. AIthough many methodological studies and case studies for specific products have heen implemented in the meantime, there are still considerable controversies regarding methodology and application.
To highlight achievements so far and to determine relevant bottlenecks in the field of life cycle analysis and substance flow analysis a workshop was organized by ECN Policy Studies, in which prominent Dutch environmental researchers and programme managers were invited to present their views. This report contains the presentations of the workshop. These presentations concern both a critical analysis of available methods and illustrations of practical applications. Case studies focus in particular on energy technology options and impacts.
