Abstract:
?Slibdroger Beverwijk? is a company that removes water from sewage sludge. The process is based on evaporation of the water in a fluidised bed. The necessary heat in the drier is provided with a steam circuit. The steam is produced in a small combined heat and power plant with a gas turbine. The specific energy consumption for the present process is high if compared with other plants.USHN has asked ECN to evaluate the present process and to indicate possible solutions to reduce the energy consumption.
After evaluating the available data ECN came to the conclusion that the process of the drier has limited possibilities for improvement. However major energy savings are possible if the waste heat from the turbine is utilised in a more effective way in the waste heat boiler. In the present situation only 60% of the available heat is used.
