Abstract:
The underlying report describes an investigation directed toward theopinion of inhabitants of dwellings in the Vroonermeer in Alkmaar and
De Stad van de Zon in Heerhugowaard (The Netherlands) about the application
of PV-panels in their district.
The research aims to determine
- The effect of PV on the contentment for dwelling or district.
-
The appreciation for information on PV given and further information
needs.
- Preferences for esthetical embedding of PV on buildings.
-
The role of PV when deciding to buy or to rent a house.
A questionnaire directed to dwellers of the two districts was used to
answer the research questions. Another questionnaire, directed to potential
buyers, and interviews were used to put the outcomes of the questionnaire
into perspective (reference group).
It can be concluded that,
while the application of PV is appreciated, dwellers do hardly take
PV systems in consideration when buying or renting a house. As a consequence,
organizations planning the large-scale use of PV should try to decrease
this gap, by further adapting the application of PV to dweller's preferences
and, possibly, by promoting the advantages of PV.
Dwellers
have to be better informed on the advantages of their PV systems, the
PV-panels applied should be the PV-panels most appreciated by potential
dwellers and the advantages of PV as e.g. a lower electricity bill,
should lie with the dwellers themselves.
