Abstract:
With regard to the problem of facilities to isolate dredge slurry, attention is paid to the diffusion imperviousness of concrete. From the
results of data in the literature it can be concluded that there is no
univocality regarding the diffusion imperviousness of concrete. The much
applied method of Cl measurements can result in values that are a factor 3 to
10 too low. It is possible that interaction of Cl with the cement matrix
causes retention, which is not taken into account. By measuring other ions as
well (e.g. Na, K, and/or NH3) the measured results, obtained via Cl, will be
more reliable. The aim of the study on the title subject is to determine the
most reliable and accurate data for the diffusion of mobile components in
concrete. Several available methods to determine the effective diffusion
coefficient are compared. 10 figs., 1 tab., 1 appendix, 10 refs.
