Abstract:
The Netherlands Energy Research Foundation (ECN) has developed a systemfor the visualization of fluid flow. This system is based on so-called
surface particles. A surface particle is a small facet, convected by the
flow. If a large number of surface particles is used in combination, a
variety of flow visualization techniques can be realised, such as moving
surfaces, streamlines, stream surfaces, etc.. This system has been used to
visualize the results of FloTHERM and FloVent, two highly advanced
CFD-packages developed by Flomerics Ltd.. The use of the system by Flomerics
Ltd. has revealed the need for a number of extensions. These have been
implemented at ECN, and are described in this report. For each extension its
usage and, if necessary, its implementation are described. The extensions
concern motion blur for moving cameras, the visualization of scalar data on
surfaces, and the use of particle sinks. 14 figs., 3 refs., 3 appendices
