Abstract:
The question if the development of the High Temperature Reactor (HTR) canregain the public confidence in nuclear energy will be answered in this
report. A study is carried out on the technology assessment of the HTR
technology. Two directions are followed: the first addresses the application
of the HTR technology to the existing chemical and electric industry and the
second one addresses the sustainability of the HTR technology using a thorium
cycle instead of the more scarcely available uranium cycle. This report
summarizes all the 9 studies performed, all the conclusions drawn are
reviewed and a final conclusion presented
