Abstract:
The estimation procedure and results of expenditure functions for theNetherlands, France and Germany are described. In the project 'EU lifestyle
and emissions' relations between lifestyle changes of the population of the
three countries and the effects on energy use and emissions are analysed,
based on an input-output approach. Consumption by households is translated
into production requirements of industrial sectors and imports, and together
with transportation requirements this results in energy use and emissions
attributed to household consumption. In this report the consumption by
households is the central issue. For the three countries sets of consumption
functions are estimated that include the influences of income, prices and
other household characteristics on the consumption pattern. In a scenario
approach developments of these explanatory variables will result in changing
consumption patterns and thus changing energy use and emissions. 10 figs., 44
