Abstract:
Two wood stoves were installed and purchased at the Netherlands EnergyResearch Foundation (ECN) in 1997: a manually to be filled 50 kW stove
(Froeling FH-G TURBO 2000/50) and a fully automated 70 kW stove (Froeling
Lambdamatic 60). The stoves are connected to the central heating system of
one of the ECN buildings and to an external cooling system to test the stoves
independent of the heat demand of the building. During the heating season the
two wood burners are in operation instead of the two gas-fired heating
appliances. The installation is equipped with instrumentation to measure and
record the composition of the flue gas (O2, CO2, CO, CxHy, NOx, SO2). The 50
kW stove was put into operation in October 1997 and the 70 kW stove in March
1998. Flue gas composition, biomass input, output of ashes and flue gas
temperatures were measured. Also mass balances and energy balances were set
up for both wood burning appliances
