Abstract:
The Dutch ministry of Spatial Planning, Housing and the Environment works on the national implementation of the Annex II of the European Landfill Directive (LFD). The LFD describes acceptance criteria for landfills containing hazardous waste and non-hazardous waste. The ministry requested ECN to perform a study on the acceptability of specific hazardous waste materials that are disposed in landfills for non-hazardous waste. These waste materials are then classified as stable, non-reactive hazardous waste materials. This report describes the environmental assessment of tar-containing roofing felt and creosoted railway sleepers.
