This report is the manual of the program "Blade Optimization Tool" (BOT) [1].
BOT can be used to calculate the stationary aerodynamic performance and loads of a wind turbine using the blade element momentum (BEM) theory. The user is supposed to supply an initial wind turbine blade design, as well as the aerodynamic coefficients for the chosen airfoils. Using the initial design, BOT can be used to optimize the supplied chord and twist distribution along the blade to obtain maximum annual energy yield for a given wind speed distribution.
In BOT corrections are available for tip and root losses (Prandtl's tip-loss factor [2]) as well as for rotational effects (Snel e.a. [3]). BOT can deal with single speed, dual speed and variable speed wind turbines, both with pitch regulation and stall regulation.
The program is created in Microsoft Excel using Visual Basic source code.
