Abstract:
The Options document describes a large number of technical options that are available to reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions and energy use in the Netherlands. The information in the current Options Document dates back to 2005 and became outdated after the new Reference projections 2020 were published in 2009. Based on these new projections and on knowledge about assumed climate policy, new (economic) circumstances and technology details, the information regarding potential and costs has been updated for most of the CO2 and energy options and part of the air pollutant options. These options were reviewed and updated by the respective sector experts of ECN and PBL. Most of the fact sheets that contain a detailed description of the option have not been changed; only scaling factors describing the new reduction or deployment potential and new costs data, both fixed and variable costs, have been estimated and incorporated in the Analysis Tool of the Options document.
