Abstract:
The building code for new houses was tightened as of January 2006, changing the energy performance coefficient (EPC) from 1.0 to 0.8. This evaluation gives insight in the experiences of companies that are involved in the building of new houses. The tightening of the building code has had effect on the energy use. The energy saving ranges from 1 to 15%, which is somewhat lower than anticipated . Occupants have complaints about the ventilation system in new houses, some relating to noise hindrance. Many health related complaints are linked to the presence of balanced ventilation. The choice of the installation concept also determines the building costs. A package of energy saving measures that met the energy performance coefficient of 0.8 can even be cheaper than a package for 1.0.
