Abstract:
The aim of the study on the title subject is to give an indication of howto apply the equipment at the Netherlands Energy Research Foundation
effectively in the gasification research projects. Differences between
scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and light microscopy (LM) are outlined for
high-temperature conversion processes. Interpretation of changes in the
structure and composition of coal and its mineral components can give
valuable indications of processes in the reactor. In general, SEM Energy
Dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX) can provide an elementary analysis of
mineral components, while LM is more appropriate for the study of fine
structures of the organic matrix. 16 refs.
