Abstract:
ECN is working on the assessment of low temperature irradiation hardeningand embrittlement of radiation alloys, as being developed for fusion
application. The irradiation of specimen holder R287-01 (CHARIOT-01), the
specimens made of three types of vanadium alloys, is a part of this program.
The R287-01 assembly was irradiated in channel 3 of a TRIO type facility in
the HFR core position G5 up to a target dose level of about 6 dpa
(displacements per atom) in vanadium at a normal temperature of 300C. This
report presents the final metrology results obtained from activation monitor
sets located in the specimen channels inside the specimen holder. The total
number of displacements per atom and the generated helium content are
included as well. The main results of the thermal and fast neutron fluence
measurements are presented. The results indicate a damage range of 3.6 to 6.3
dpa. Unfortunately the irradiation was disturbed by a water leak in the
capsule, which caused a very low irradiation temperature (=100C) during 7
days at the start of the last HFR-cycle (96-11). 15 refs.
