Abstract:
The design of the energy conversion system (ECS) for the ACACIA (AdvanCedAtomic Cogenerator for Industrial Applications) is discussed. The plant
combines a closed cycle gas turbine system with a high-temperature gas-cooled
reactor (HTGR). It produces 13.6 MWe and 17 tons/h of industrial steam using
a 40 MWth reactor (electrical efficiency 34%, total efficiency 64%). Design
objectives are presented. The choice for a cycle is then explained. A
preliminary design, including a sensitivity analysis, is given for the major
equipment. 13 refs.
