Abstract:
Two conceptual desiccant dehumidifying units have been designed for application in greenhouses: a batch type with storage of the hygroscopic salt solution and regeneration in the daytime, and a continuous type with direct regeneration. The units have a capacity of 240 kg/h of moisture for one hectare of the greenhouse. The energy consumption reduction for a greenhouse (culture: roses) as calculated with the KASPRO-model amounts to 2-17% (about 300 MJ/m2/y) depending on the specific design of the dehumidification unit and the re-use of waste heat. An economic evaluation shows a simple payback period of 7 years. 1 ref.
