Abstract:
At the windward side of a wind farm, we propose to operate the windturbines at an axial induction factor below the Lanchester-Betz optimum
of 1/3. Our analysis shows that the power of the turbines under the
lee will increase more than the decrease of the power of the turbines
at the windward side, so that the power of the farm as a whole increases.
Measurements with a 1:400 scaled model of a wind farm confirmed the
hypothesis.
