Abstract:
For the development of innovative
energy saving heat pump concepts for the production of cold it is of
utmost importance to know the size of the market and the possible energy
saving potential already at an early stage. There are no known public
figures on this. Therefore, with funding by Senter a feasibility study
has been carried out in which the use of cold in the Netherlands? process
industry has been estimated, as well as the energy saving potential
of two innovative heat pump concepts.
The use of cold in the processes in the temperature range -110
to C is assessed as 28 PJ per year. The primary energy use associated
with this production of cold amounts to 27 PJ per year. The energy saving
potential of the new cooling machines investigated amounts to 4,4 PJ
for a waste heat driven thermo chemical cooling machine and 1,5 - 2,7 PJ for
a thermo acoustic cooling machine (gas fired and waste heat driven respectively).
The economic prospects for these refrigeration machines look very good
due to the fact that the reduced energy consumption leads to a strong
reduction in operation costs.
