Presented at: 20th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition, Barcelona, Spain, 6-10 juni 2005.
Abstract:
Given the current shortage of off-spec p-type
silicon from the microelectronics industry to feed the rapidly growing
PV industry, research is being conducted to explore other types of silicon
feedstock to produce solar cells and modules. In particular, within
the EU funded NESSI project a technology is under development to purify
n-type Si feedstock from highly-doped off-spec n-type silicon and produce
thin n-type multicrystalline wafers.
A technology to process solar cell over these
substrates and to interconnect them with a low-temperature process has
been developed. Module prototypes have been built and their performance
evaluated.
