Abstract:
The state-of-the-art of the research on polycrystalline (pc) Si solarcells is given for two specific subjects: the short term development of such
cells with 18% efficiency, and the development of alternative designs (in
particular the Emitter Wrap-Through or EWT-concept) to improve the efficiency
and to reduce the production costs. Long term research at ECN Renewable
Energy aims at the production of film silicon solar cells. Supporting
research concerns the fields of surface passivation, and light inclusion. In
the last 4 years the efficiency of pc-Si solar cells is improved from 11 to
15.7%.
