Abstract:
State-of-the-art SOFCs manufactured by ECN with dimensions of 10x10 cm2have been tested with methane/steam mixtures as fuel, in the temperature
range 800-930C. The initial catalytic activity for steam reforming seems
sufficient for operation between 850-930C. However, the catalytic activity
decreases rapidly with time, making the anode unsuitable for long-term
operation. Explanations for this degradation and modifications to the anode
that would reduce the rate of degradation are discussed. 4 figs., 9 refs.
