Abstract:
Ceramic foam burners (CFB) are premix gas burners developed by ECN forapplication in central heating boilers. In co-operation with SEC, conceptual
designs are developed for the industrial application of CFB in medium and
high capacity process furnaces (3 MW to 18 MW). The furnaces considered are
used to heat a working gas or fluid up to 300C. The designs exploit the
advantages of CFB and can accommodate the relatively large burner surface.
The total material and construction costs are estimated to be equal to or
slightly higher than those for conventional furnaces with nozzle-mix burners.
However, CFB yield a more even heat distribution which may easily offset any
price disadvantage for specific applications. Efforts are made to realise one
of the designs in a pilot project. 5 figs., 1 tab., 3 refs.
