Abstract:
Ceramic radiant burners are premix gas burners that convert part of thecombustion heat into infrared radiation. In this process the flame is cooled
and, as a result, a small amount of NOx is produced. The radiant efficiency
decreases with heat input from about 30% at 100 kW/m2 to less than 10% above
500 kW/m2. If the combustion air is preheated or enriched with oxygen,
radiant efficiencies of 45% can be reached with ECN ceramic foam burners. The
NOx-production remains low. The maximum surface temperature may reach 1100C,
which corresponds to a radiation intensity of 160 kW/m2. 8 figs., 2 refs.
