        Abstract:
The C/S3N4 composite material was manufactured by a pressureinfiltration of 2D carbon fibre preforms using a Si3N4 slurry followed by a
single liquid preceramic polymer infiltration and pyrolysis in a furnace with
a nitrogen atmosphere. The densification degree, microstructure, thermal and
mechanical properties of the composite material were characterised. The
C/Si3N4 composite material pyrolyzed at 1300C is considered to be a very
promising material for low temperature applications. The residual porosity of
the material was in a range of 8-9 %, the specific density was 2.13 g/cm3,
the flexural strength was approximately 200 MPa and the Young's modulus 120
GPa. 11 refs.
