Abstract:
In this essay energetic, economic, and environmental boundaries arepresented, for the use of the renewable energy source biomass for CHP
production in the Netherlands. After a general overview of global fossil fuel
demand/reserves, its resulting environmental consequences, and the
substituting possibilities for renewable energy sources (section 2), the
possibilities for a new technological (r)evolution are presented in section
3. In this section items such as sustainable development and industrial
ecology are introduced, which result to criteria for a global sustainable
energy supply system. The specific Dutch energy supply/power production
system, together with the Dutch governmental policy concerning the
introduction of renewable energy sources, is presented in section 4. The
potential role of the most promising renewable energy source in the
Netherlands, viz. biomass, in the future Dutch sustainable energy supply
system, together with its energetic, economic, and environmental boundaries,
is presented in section 5., closing this essay. 22 refs.
