Abstract:
Research and development carried out at the Netherlands Energy ResearchFoundation (ECN) in Petten, Netherlands, focuses on materials and structure optimisation and on manufactunng techniques for anode and electrolyte supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) components. Manufacturing processes developed at ECN are based on tape casting and screen-printing. Within this area, the aims are primarily to reduce costs, and to improve the reliability and robustness of the cells against conditions that occur in actual operating systems. The validated manufacturing protocols are subsequently transferred from the SOFC R&D group to InDEC Ltd. for routine, quality controlled production in a semi-industrial environment and for delivery to customers. Besides summarising the present development status, this paper also discusses the long term R&D programme at ECN. 10 refs.
