Abstract:
Damping of two deformation modes by one control loop has been demonstratedby simulation for a typical 3 MW wind turbine. The vibration levels
of 2nd and 3rd in-plane model modes were significantly reduced. Calculations
with the aerodynamic code PHATAS showed an overall in-plane fatigue
load reduction by ca 40%. The control loop includes a Kalman filter
that estimates state variables for the modal modes. The states are obtained
from band filtered generator speed measurements only. The state feedback
to the generator torque is based on pole placement techniques.
