Abstract:
Lack of societal acceptance of energy (transition) technologies is often attributed to a lack of knowledge among the general public and the local community in which implementation of a new technology is planned. The underlying assumption is that more knowledge improves attitudes about a technology. This 'Information Deficit model' is still omnipresent in the energy transition debate, also when it comes to societal acceptance of CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) demonstrations. In this paper we will address two causes of the persistence of the information deficit model among decision makers and project developers as well as within the science community.
