Abstract:
This latest Annual Status report on Nationally
Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) mid-year update
2015, provides a snapshot of the current state of play of
NAMAs. It looks at the latest statistics on
NAMA development worldwide, and highlights some
recent developments relevant to NAMA progress and
support.
The report takes a close look at recent developments around the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and its relevance for NAMAs and introduces emerging insights on the work countries are undertaking in formulating their mitigation ambition and contributions, with reflections on the role of NAMAs in relation to Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). The report closes with a discussion of the future of NAMAs which builds on the main conclusions of the previous Status Report and expert panel discussions at COP20 in Lima. The report argues that we expect countries to consolidate their NAMAs and work toward a (more)strategic approach to mitigation action. We expect that NAMAs will be broadly used to design bottom-up government action to show how INDCs can achieve transformational change after Paris. In the future, work on NAMAs may include detailing INDCs, working on (sectoral) mitigation actionplans, and articulating benefits to secure domestic support and buy-in.
