Abstract:
Reduction of the emission of carbon dioxide conform the Kyoto agreementis being incorporated in the Netherlands national legislation. The minister
of economic affairs has set ambitious targets in reducing the energy
intensity of the industrial and services sector. This target concerns a 40%
reduction in CO2 emission in 2020 compared with the reference year of 1995.
The Netherlands Energy Research Foundation aims to comply with this reduction
and the management proposes to commit itself in the licensing agreement to
realize at least 60% of the reduction. This commitment concerns a reduction
per full time employee, implying that an increase in research staff can be
incorporated without violating the targets. This report outlines a detailed
calculation protocol in order to unambiguously show compliance with committed
levels. This report also shows supporting energy analyses which reveals a
further potential to reducing energy consumption levels. Management
involvement, communicating with the employees, incorporating the ambition in
the quality assurance system and setting up an energy monitoring system are
believed to be key elements in achieving the corporate targets. 13 refs.
