        Abstract:
Outcomes are presented of a World Bank funded research project with theobjective to provide up-to-date technical information an low-end lighting
options. Emphasis is on 12 volt DC lights suitable for solar home systems in
developing countries. For comparison a number of traditional light sources
such as candles and kerosene lanterns have also been included. Based on the
measurements a proposal is formulated for a luminous efficacy standard. 3
