Abstract:
In order to improve the aerodynamic models which are implemented in windturbine design codes, basic aerodynamic quantities were measured at an experimental wind turbine with a scale corresponding to commercial wind turbines. The strong delay of stall at the inboard station and the weaker delay of stall at the other stations which are observed under rotating conditions for negative blade pitch angles are in agreement with the ones measured at other facilities. This is in contrast to the pitch dependency of the normal force coefficient at high angles of attack which is observed at the inboard station. Apart form this pitch dependency, these measured results are in agreement with the ones obtained on basis of theoretical work on the effect of rotation. This opens the door to the application of 'steady' rotational effects when designing a (stall-controlled) wind turbine rotor. 9 figs., 1 tab., 10 refs.
