Abstract:
This report contains the theory and user manual for the computer tool BLADOPT. BLADOPT is a numerical optimization tool for designing horizontal axis wind turbine rotor blades. The objective function of the optimization is the cost of energy calculated according to the recommended procedures of the IEA. This implies that not only the energy yield but also the cost of the complete wind energy systems has to be determined. The rotor performance i.e. power curve and design loads are predicted using a quasi-static rotor code and load module taking the chosen power control mode into account. Two different component cost modules are implemented, a parametric one using only geometric parameters of the wind turbine and design wind spectrum parameters and a model based on engineering models for the tower and the rotor blade making use of a load prediction model.
The report describes the general set up of the optimization tool and each individual module. The installation procedure for Windows 95/98 and Windows NT and the deinstallation procedure.
The user's manual describes the entire user interface screens and each button and text box of those screens.
To be able to understand the source code of the component cost modules the include files and common block parameters are described in the Annex.
