Abstract:
The purpose of the study on the title subject is to gain insight into thepossibility for a selective washing out of salts from flue gas purification
residues (from waste incinerators) in order to improve the quality of the
waste water to the level of quality of the composition of seawater. The aim
of this study is to assess whether the discharge of the separated salts to
the sea is feasible and environmentally acceptable. Several separation
methods are analyzed on a laboratory level. The chemical compositions of the
washing water solutions are compared with the composition of the coastal
seawater. Based on the experimental results and the chemical activity of the
most important elements a two-phase treatment is proposed in which a washing
treatment at a high (alkaline) pH-value is followed by
neutralization/carbonation of the washing water, if necessary in combination
with additives. 19 figs., 5 tabs., 11 refs.
